Frequently Asked Questions
FAQs
How does the feeding calculator work?
Our system leverages a multi-parameter metabolic optimization model developed from extensive veterinary nutrition research and field data analysis. This model dynamically evaluates physiological markers, life-stage profiles, behavioral patterns, and goal-driven adjustments to estimate an animal’s optimal daily energy and nutrient requirements.
The engine then applies a precision nutrient-mapping framework to translate those energy targets into balanced macronutrient allocations and portion guidance, ensuring both biological efficiency and practical feeding accuracy. This adaptive approach allows the calculator to deliver results that are both scientifically grounded and individually tailored without requiring manual input of complex nutritional data.
Is this for both dogs and cats?
Yes. Choose Dog or Cat and enter breed, age, weight and activity. The tool adjusts factors and recipes by species and life stage (puppy/kitten, adult, senior).
Can it help with weight loss or weight gain?
Yes. Pick a goal (lose, maintain, gain, coat/skin, sensitive tummy, muscle). We shift the macro ratio (e.g., higher protein, lower carbs for weight loss) and adjust calories safely.
How many meals per day should I feed?
Puppies/kittens usually do 3–4 small meals; adults do 2 meals; seniors may prefer 2–3 smaller meals. The calculator shows grams per meal for your choice
Can I use cups instead of grams?
For accuracy use grams. If you must use cups, 1 cup of most homemade mixes is ~100–120 g—but density varies. We recommend weighing meals with a kitchen scale.
Does it support allergies and “avoid” ingredients?
Yes. Add items to your Avoid list. The tool hides recipes with those ingredients and hard-blocks known toxic foods (e.g., xylitol, grapes/raisins, chocolate, alliums).
Are the recipes organic and homemade?
Yes. We suggest organic, homemade recipe ideas that match your pet’s tastes and textures. They’re meant to be simple, kitchen-friendly and additive-light.
Will it tell me exact micronutrients (vitamins/minerals)?
We calculate calories and macros (P/C/F). For micronutrients, rotate ingredients and consult your vet. We also hint at omega-3 and fiber goals where appropriate.
What if my pet is neutered/spayed?
Neuter status lowers typical energy needs. Choose the correct option—our MER factor automatically adjusts calories to avoid over-feeding.
How accurate is the healthy weight range by breed?
Breed ranges are guidance, not a diagnosis. Genetics, sex and body condition vary. Use the range alongside your vet’s body-condition scoring
Can I print or share the plan with my vet?
Yes. Use the Print button to save a PDF with inputs, calories, macros and portions for quick vet review
Is this veterinary advice?
No. It’s general nutrition guidance. For medical conditions (pancreatitis, CKD, diabetes, etc.), talk to your veterinarian before changing diets.
Is the calculator free and private?
Yes. It’s free, runs in your browser and doesn’t require an account. Your inputs aren’t sent to a server unless your browser or theme collects analytics
How often should I recalculate?
Recalculate whenever weight, activity or goals change, or at least monthly for growing puppies/kittens.
